The 5th Annual Invest in Turkey Forum took place with great success at the Conrad St. James Hotel in London. With over 90 high industry professionals registered, our 2017 event built upon the success of our 2016 forum and provided a platform for discussing the future potential of Turkey’s investment ambitions.

The conference chairman welcoming remarks were made by Leland Rice (The Business Year, Official Event Partner) who invited the honorary guest, Turkish Ambassador H.E. Abdurrahman Bilgiç. to open the conference with insights into the current investment climate; following ISPAT (Mr Necmettin Kaymaz) detailed presentation on "Why to invest in Turkey?" The morning session was concluded with "Turkey - Why to invest? panel discussion with experts from Macquarie, SMBC, Erdem&Erdem Law Office, UK Export Finance and Global Investment Holding. Panellists, among the others, debated on how does Turkey compare with other countries from a risk return perspective, how has investor appetite changed in the past 10 years and why to invest in Turkey's infrastructure projects.
After a well-deserved coffee and a chance to network with each other, the delegates took their seats for the next session on Financing & Developing PPP projects. Set of five speeches took place sharing some positive views about Turkey as a thriving and attractive PPP market for investors despite its challenges. These included: Financing PPP projects (Isbank), Gebze-Izmir case study (Otoyol A.S.), Risk in infrastructure (Moody's Investor Service) as well as healthcare PPP cases studies from Turkey and Canada provided by YDA and BTY. The session was summarised by exciting debate on challenges for PPP in Turkey with speakers from EBRD, Siemens Bank, Gama Holding, BTY, YDA and Erdem & Erdem Law Office sharing their expertise.
Following the break, afternoon session allowed more detailed discussions on energy opportunities in Turkey. Panellists from Limak Energy, Gama Energy, Natixis, Gün + Partners and The Business Year discussed the growing role of smart technology in the sector, regulatory changes in renewable energy sector, existing project bankability issues. Some points were made about the role of TANAP/Southern Corridor project will play to boost competitiveness and economic activity, support regional trade and integration, and ensure energy security for both Turkey and Europe.
