OVID-19 has forced businesses in each country to look at the status of every part of their business. In response to the crisis, many countries, including Turkey, are introducing new tax measures to support investments, businesses and the economy. In the first episode of our webinar series, held on 4th June 2020, leading tax experts from NAZALI Tax & Legal Services  discussed COVID-19 related tax measures and implications on doing business in Turkey.

Keynote Presenters

murat demirMurat Demir

Partner, Tax Department, NAZALI

Murat is a Partner at NAZALI Tax & Legal Services and responsible from NAZALI’s Bursa Office. He is specialized in Turkish tax law and providing tax advisory including compliance services to many of local and international leading firms in their sectors.
Murat started his career as a tax associate at one of the Big4 firms in İzmir, and assigned to Bursa Office as a head manager in 2013. During his career, he was promoted to the manager level in 2009 and senior manager level in 2012 until he started to his key role at NAZALI, in Fall 2018.

He has by far specialized in chemical, automotive, and agricultural sectors. Also, he published several articles on Investment Incentives and Private Consumption Tax.
Murat graduated from Dokuz Eylül University Business Administration Faculty and he entitled to get LL.M certificate from Bahcesehir University and Uludag University in Public Law. He has been CPA for more than 10 years.

Nilay Goker DuranNilay Göker Duran

Partner, Corporate, M&A, Banking and Finance, NAZALI

Nilay is a Partner at NAZALI Tax & Legal Services responsible from the Corporate, M&A and Banking & Finance team. She has extensive knowledge and practicing experience on corporate and commercial transactions and M&A’s.
Nilay is involved in major transactions in a wide range of sectors including energy, insurance, healthcare and finance within the scope of large and medium scale M&A projects and also assisted private equity funds and venture capital firms. Besides, Nilay has led many due diligence processes, share purchase transactions, drafting and finalising partnership and shareholding agreements including closing and post-closing stages from entry through exit processes.
Nilay graduated from Istanbul University Faculty of Law, in 2005 and holds an LL.M. degree on Corporate Law from the London School of Economics and Political Science in 2009 by the Jean Monnet Scholarship.
Nilay is described as one of the foremost corporate governance and M&A lawyers in Turkey, where her success is being ranked by WhoisWhoLegal in 2018.

Ulku SolaÜlkü Solak

Partner, Corporate, M&A, Data Protection, NAZALI

Ülkü is a Partner at NAZALI Tax & Legal Services and responsible from the Corporate, M&A and Data Protection team. Prior to joining NAZALI, Ülkü represented domestic and multinational clients on cross-border and local acquisitions, joint ventures and restructurings in a leading local law firm.

Ülkü has been heavily involved in cross-border and domestic corporate and commercial transactions, including M&A deals, from entry through exit processes. Her other major practice areas are IT law, growth financing and data protection.
Ülkü has also profound experience in personal data protection law. She provides consultancy services including designing and managing personal data protection compliance projects, regular legal advice on data protection, audits on legal requirements and consultancy, planning corporate trainings and assists clients in line with the approaches of the relevant authorities.
Ülkü graduated from Bilkent University Faculty of Law, in 2006 and has been pursuing her LL.M. degree in Information Technology Law, from Istanbul Bilgi University.

Emre DurgunEmre Durgun

Partner, Litigation and Dispute Resolution, NAZALI

Emre is a Partner at NAZALI Tax & Legal Services and responsible from the Litigation and Dispute Resolution team. His 20-year practice concentrates mainly on commercial litigation particularly on local and cross border patent disputes, involving life sciences, automotive, machinery and technology sectors. He advises clients in litigation, arbitration and mediation proceedings at NAZALI.
Emre considered as an expert in dispute analysis, strategic planning, negotiations and dealing with client matters from beginning until post-trial processes. He focuses on legal disputes especially on Intellectual Property Law, Corporate Law, Public Procurement Law, supply contracts, construction projects, distribution contracts and debt collection.
Emre has been recognized as one of the leading Intellectual Property lawyers of Turkey, by Chambers and Partners and Legal 500.
Emre graduated from Marmara University, Faculty of Law in 1999 and holds an LL.M. degree on International Trade Law from the University of Southampton. He is also a lecturer at undergraduate level where he teaches mostly on Pharmaceutical Patent Law.

Metin PektasMetin Pektaş

Partner, Competition Law/Antitrust, NAZALI

Metin is a Partner at NAZALI Tax & Legal Services and responsible from the Competition Law / Antitrust and Compliance team. He worked as competition law/policy specialist for the Turkish Competition Authority (TCA) between 2004-2017. He also worked as consultant to the TCA President and as a training coordinator.
At TCA, he took part in numerous cartel, monopoly and merger cases in several industries, such as; cement, steel, chemicals, mining, banking and finance, health, medicine, agriculture and service industry. He also worked for significant privatization cases.
Prior to joining NAZALI, Metin worked as General Manager of Tarım Kredi Holding for the establishment of organizational structure and recruitment process. Besides, he was responsible from revised budgeting and KPI systems and conducted market studies for agricultural inputs.
Metin graduated from Middle East Technical University (METU) Political Sciences and Public Administration Faculty with obtaining a Minor degree in Economics. He also completed the MSc programme in Science and Technology Policy Studies at METU and holds a degree from MA programme in Development Policy, at Duke University.
