OVERVIEW OF THE EVENT

See What We Prepared For You

The Baltic & Nordic Energy Summit was launched in 2009 to provide professionals with information about the rapidly evolving energy sector in the region. At the 2023 Tallinn edition, 35+ renowned industry experts including European Energy, Felxens, Ilmatar Energy Oy, Eesti Energia, Sunly, Utilitas, EBRD, Energiasalv, OX2, NORD/LB, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, shared their insights into the energy transition with sector-specific sessions exploring the future energy mix opportunities.

Laura Huomo, head of Bird & Bird’s Energy Practice in Helsinki, chaired the event.

The morning of day 1 was dedicated to wind power, with a keynote address discussing Estonia’s upcoming offshore wind auctions, and a comprehensive roundtable discussion. Following the morning networking break, Thorvald Spanggaard Executive Vice President, Head of Project Development at European Energy delivered a keynote on the company’s insights into the latest offshore and power-to-X projects, which allowed for further discussion regarding the green hydrogen/P2X landscape. {Read more to discover about European Energy’s landmark commercial e-methanol plant built in Denmark as well as opportunities and challenges in green hydrogen and offshore energy – Expert Interview: European Energy’s Executive Vice President – Thorvald Spanggaard].

There were several other important topics discussed during the first day, including the solar boom and battery energy storage systems (BESS) as well as insights into CO2 shipping and the transforming CCS ecosystem. Experts also discussed H2 infrastructure pipelines including the ground-breaking Baltic Sea Hydrogen Collector and the Nordic Baltic Hydrogen Corridor – the cross-border hydrogen corridor proposed by GAZ-SYSTEM together with six regional transmission system operators (TSOs).

In lieu of new energy transition pathways attracting the attention of investors and financial markets, day 2 of the conference centered on sustainable finance trends as well as multilateral support for green projects. There was a lot of discussion about what motivates renewable energy M&A deals and what the future holds for emerging funds of investment, such as UB Renewable Energy fund (Associated Sponsor) – part of United Bankers, a Finnish asset management company-  that invests in renewable energy development projects and operational renewable power plants. The day ended with the PPA landscape roundtable in the region.

This event would not have been possible without our leading sponsors: European Energy (Gold Sponsor), Bird & Bird – Bronze Sponsor, and UB Renewable Energy – Associated Sponsor. EEL Events would like to thank all delegates, speakers, panelists, sponsors and partners for participating and contributing to the The Baltic & Nordic Energy Summit.

In case you had missed us in Tallinn, we look forward to seeing you soon at #BalticNordicEnergy 2024!
