The 15th annual edition of the Baltic Nordic Energy Summit, which took place on November 12-13 in Tallinn, Estonia, provided an illuminating platform for industry leaders to come together and discuss new projects, ventures, and investments shaping the energy transition landscape. This event successfully brought together over 100 energy executives from across the region, offering them an opportunity to exchange ideas, share their experiences, and forge new partnerships.
The forum provided a comprehensive overview of the current challenges and opportunities in the energy field. Through a series of keynote speeches, panel discussions, and presentations, industry experts delved into exploring market dynamics and investment trends.The event commenced with Chairwoman Opening Remakrs provided by Laura Huomo, Nordic Head of Energy and Infrastructure at Bird & Bird followed by an in-depth power market outlook by Aurora Energy Research setting the tone for a series of engaging discussions. Experts offered insights into the current market dynamics, highlighting key trends that are reshaping the energy landscape. A dedicated discussion on investors’ requirements and mergers & acquisitions (M&A) followed, providing a comprehensive overview of the financial landscape influencing energy projects.
Participants also explored opportunities in the solar sector, examining the potential for growth and innovation in harnessing solar energy. The sessions on price volatility and power purchase agreements (PPAs) offered valuable perspectives on managing risks and securing stable energy contracts in an ever-evolving market. The discussions extended to emerging sectors, with a focus on new opportunities for battery energy storage systems (BESS) and offshore wind. These sessions highlighted the market advancements and strategic investments driving the adoption of these innovative solutions.
During the second day, the discussions primarily focused on financing mechanisms and new infrastructure projects. Notably, there was a spotlight on green hydrogen initiatives, including MT Group’s plans to establish the first hydrogen station in the Baltic States as well as a hydrogen production facility proposed for Latvia’s Port of Liepaja.
The day concluded with presentations on Projects of Common Interest (PCI), offering insights into the construction of Estonia’s first pumped hydro energy storage plant in Paldiski and the CCS Baltic Consortium project.
