Following the success of our last year’s inaugural ‘UK Turkish Overseas Investment Forum,’ the 2nd edition built on the continuous talks of the opportunities and challenges for Turkish companies aiming at global expansion through the UK.
While the UK remains the number one destination for Foreign Direct Investment, second only to the USA, Turkey keeps climbing the list of Britain’s FDI, which grew tenfold over the past decade. The event examined these relationships in light of the recent economic slowdown in Turkey while addressing the challenges of BREXIT.
During the day, the opening speeches were made by the President of the Chamber Alderman Emma Edhem, United Kingdom Ambassador Ümit Yalçın and Department for International Trade (DIT) British Consulate General of Istanbul and Trade Commissioner Judith Slater. Yavuz Sökmen became the moderator of the session titled “England as a springboard for the global growth of Turkish companies “. E-commerce opportunities in England and possible impacts of BREXIT in the UK were explored by Turkish Trade Center Director of the UK Dilara Yardımcı, Moris Kastro, Kemal Sidar, Murat Soysal and Aaron Saraç.
During the day-long event, different sessions were held in the fields of finance, regulatory framework, real estate, construction, energy, health, retail and technology.
